I’m a sophomore and lately everyone I know seems be joining all these career techs and have some idea about what they’ll do with their life- except me. I really don’t have a preference for one subject over another and I don’t want to rush it. But it seems everyone is pushing me to find my “dream”. What do I do?
Dear Career Crazy
I understand you circumstances and it can be hard choosing a career for your up coming life. You’re under pressure. One thing I do is think, should I really go for this career or a career I enjoy doing. Its okay to get other opinion on ideas but it’s your life; not your friends. Make it the one you enjoy, not the career you’re forced into. Take your time choosing your career. Sure it may feel hard and impossible, but take it one step at a time. The second thing I do is list the things or subjects I’m into, and after that see what careers are like that, and if they are not that interesting then go to the next one. Friends can help with choosing sometimes, but not always. Last time I asked a friend for advice about a career she said I should be a clown. The MOST HELPFUL thing (this may sound cliche, but trust me, it works) is listen your heart. If you get a feeling that is good or bad follow it, that may help you chose but another thing is figure it out as you go. You don’t have to chose right now. You have got so much time. Hey even I don’t know my career but this Johnny Jet thing may be mine or something. Anyways give it time and wait to see what you want. Don’t let others decide for you.
