So, 2017 – what does it mean? There have been 2,017 years since “A.D.” which is “anno domini” or the year of our Lord.
Okay, but that’s the legitimate thing. What do I think it means?
Well, I’m hoping that it means a brand new beginning – one where I don’t have to deal with my mother suffering from cancer or my sister canoodling with her boyfriend and causing my parents extreme panics when she doesn’t come home by curfew. I hope 2017 will not bring more deaths in the family and the black cloud that hovered above our heads will shrivel up and die.
But, anyways, I think 2017 will be tough. I have to apply to college in the fall and get my ACT and SAT scores high so that I qualify for a lot of scholarships. I also need to pass my AP exams in May so that I can get credits for college which also saves a lot of money. I need to maintain my GPA and all of that, too.
My culture says 2017 is the year of the rooster. I know, you’re all super confused. Well, I’m Chinese and we have Chinese zodiac based on the ancient days and one ancient story. Basically, back then they believed that the Jade Emperor who ruled the heavens said that the animals could be calendar signs if they competed in a race – that race would declare the order of the years on the calendar. Long story short, the rat lied to the cat and that’s why the cat always tries to kill the rat. The calendar signs’ order is rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, pig.
Even though it doesn’t start until the Lunar New Year of January 28th, the predictions for it seem lovely. According to astrologyclub.org, the year of the rooster will be “a powerful one, with no middle of the road when it comes to moving forward. This year, impressions count. You’ll want to look your best and be clear on your intentions concerning love, money, and business. Stick to practical and well-proven paths to ensure success, rather than risky ventures.” They also have individualized zodiac predictions that I encourage you to check out at: http://astrologyclub.org/chinese-horoscope/2017-year-rooster/ to see what your year of the rooster has in store.
