Dear Johnny,

I’d appreciate advice on how to get a girl to notice me… You see, I’m a pretty shy sophomore guy and and the girl I’m interested in is a beautiful, intelligent junior. We’re only in one class together but she always gives me a smile. The problem is, I don’t know how to approach her with my feelings… I know I’m probably not good enough for her, but still I’d like to know if you can give me some tips to get closer to her.

Thanks,

Shy Sophomore

Hello Shy Sophomore,

First, I must apologize. When we first received your message, many months ago, we were extremely backed up. In turn, we pushed aside your request. But while we worked through our other projects, we never let your query slip out of our minds.

I realize that by now, this advice may be too late to be of much help. As time slips by, so does opportunity. Since the new semester began, that one class the two of you had together has probably ended, which means it’s less likely for you to meet, let alone get closer. Furthermore, since so much time has passed, it’s possible that you no longer feel the same way about this person.

But if you still feel the same way, here is some advice: Pick your self-confidence up off of the floor and start at being friends. Don’t be afraid of being in the “friend-zone.” If you act caring and nice, there might be some romance in the cards. First develop a strong friendship with her.  Try to find some common interests to help spark conversations between the two of you. Be sure not to rush things; just act amiably, and be careful not to come off as creepy. To to this, try gauging her reactions to things people say or do. This will help you learn more about her and socialize at ease. And if it doesn’t work out; if she doesn’t like you in that way, it’s okay! You’ll have made a new friend. You might not get the girl, but know that somewhere down the road, you’ll meet the woman of your dreams. She’s out there, whether it be this girl or someone else. Just have faith. 🙂

Best of luck!

Johnny the Jet
