The 6th Annual Birmingham Fashion Week was held August 25 to the 27 at the Historic Boutwell Auditorium in downtown Birmingham. The show was founded by Heidi Elnora (wedding dress designer and owner of Heidi Elnora Atelier; star of TLC’s show Bride by Design) and style director Jeana Lee Thompson. Together they launched the first fashion in Birmingham with a motto:

“To create an atmosphere that not only directly influence our youth and local economy in a positive manner but to change the persona of the southern fashion industry while setting the stage for future generations.”

Over the span of three days, the stage was filled with runway ready looks by local and retail designers, Emerging Designers, and Rising Design Stars. The Emerging Design Star competition chooses the top 16 sketches submitted by designers to be presented on the runway.

Local Designers include:

  • Hale Bob
  • by Smith
  • Abbey Glass
  • Benjamin Jay
  • Charles Ellis Sartorial
  • Bradford Billingsley
  • Rails
  • Alice & Trixie
  • Heidi Elnora

Retail Designers include:

  • Pretty Wolf
  • Alchemy 213
  • Gus Mayer
  • The Clothes Tree
  • Tom James
  • fab’rik Birmingham

The Rising Design Star Competition is open to all students grade 6-12. The challenge is to create an outfit without using any fabric or sewing. This year’s theme: The Future of Fashion. Over 300 applications were submitted and the top 60 sketches were chosen as semi-finalists including James Clemens High School’s very own Jess Chan and Reema Matar. Semi-finalists then must create their garments to showcase at the Birmingham Fashion Show. Congratulations to these two jets!
