For some talking is hard but doing it in front of others is harder. For example, my mind before presenting (not just in front of my class but anywhere) is “I’m going to mess up. I wouldn’t remember what I wanted to say. Ahhhhhhhh.”
That’s me, when I have to talk in front of people. I freak out because it’s hard not to when you think that everyone is going to judge you for every word you don’t say correctly. This is called being afraid of public speaking; most people are afraid of this.
They don’t have self confidence in themselves because they are afraid of others telling them that they’re wrong or dumb. It’s natural to feel scared or embarrassed, so here some tips to help you.
  1. First, write down want you need to say and then write down what you want to say – it may seem like you are interesting through this.
  2. Second, don’t just memorize; doing so will make you sound just fake. Make it sound like you’re having a conversation with yourself.
  3. Third, just practice: practice in front of a mirror, practice with your friend, practice with your dog or cat. It may make you feel stupid but hey! You just got to do it!
When you need to present in front of people, here are some more tips.
  1. Speak to one of your friends, because if you’re afraid of speaking in front of a group of friends because they might judge you, speaking to one of them and slowly bilding up to two and then three will make you able to talk to them all slowly and perfectly. By easing into it, you will even start laughing with them!
  2. Find confidence and be positive! If you are passionate about what you want to say, then you’re not wrong. I learned right now from taking AP Literature that no opinion (or question) is wrong; it’s just a different view on the topic. So go out there and speak your mind. If you don’t, you’ll never stop fearing your own options.
