Dear Johnny,
I am a very shy person, but I want to become more outgoing. What should I do?

Sincerely,
Super Shy Student

Hi there, Super Shy Student!

Don’t fret; thankfully there are a bunch of different ways you can become more outgoing. For one, there are millions of different videos on YouTube that have various different ways for you to become more outgoing. But these are just a few tips I know have helped me.
Tip #1
Dont be afraid to speak up and be heard.
Realizing that you have a voice is something that many people do, but few people convey their opinions effectively. Now I don’t mean to tell everyone what’s on your mind all the time. But I do mean that when the time is right, don’t be afraid to let people know you’re in the room. Humbly give your opinion and wait for a response. Practice with you friends and family until you get really good at speaking in front of an audience.
Tip #2
Try new things!
Whether it is a club, sport, or maybe just a new shampoo! Trying new things is a great way to meet new people, have great experiences, and it gives you awesome stories to tell your new friends. There are lots of great Clubs in JC that you can check out. There is a list of clubs in our school website as well as on this website here: https://jcjetstream.com/1014/student-life/clubs-and-organizations-at-jc/
Tip #3
Always have a positive look on everything.
When you are constantly smiling and looking on the bright side, your mind can sometimes connect smiling and cheery expressions with success. Meaning, that if you go into a situation smiling and confident that you will have the upper hand. 9 times out of 10 you will succeeded based on the sole fact that you believed in yourself.
Tip #4
The last tip i can give you is actually a challenge. I challenge you to say yes to every event you get asked to for the next 30 days and see where it takes you. Now I don’t mean to say yes if it is something that you know that you are uncomfortable with, or you can get in trouble with. Just try it, and see where it takes you.

Hopefully these tips will help you!
Actively participate in activities and your shyness will slowly disappear.

Good luck!
Johnny the Jet
